Happy Wednesday, my friends! Are you sick of Mattie and I talking about this link-up yet? I hope not, because this is (literally) just the beginning. Starting today, you can expect the Weekly Lessons link-up series, hosted by Mattie of Northwest Native and me. If you’re curious about what this topic means, hop over to yesterday’s Wednesday Link-Up Cheat Sheet post (and then hop right back).
It’s been awhile since I’ve stayed at home by myself. Come to think of it, I actually don’t think I have since moving to Sacramento. My boyfriend, Jake, recently accepted a great job (yay!) that requires him to travel sometimes, and last week was the first experience. I announced that I was going to eat what I wanted, watch what I wanted, and do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. Jake raised his eyebrows at my bold statement, and responded, “You know you do all of that anyway.” Naturally, I argued if that was the case, the Golf Channel would not be on TV so often.
I expected to eat fresh vegetables and maybe even quinoa because Jake calls it “bird food.” I wouldn’t have to add meat to every meal. I was going to have delicious leftovers all to myself.
Instead, I may or may not have eaten two boxes of Lean Pockets in one night. It started with no desire to go to the grocery store and went downhill from there. It did not get better with the second night, or even the third night. I went so far as to microwave a quesadilla and add boiling water for Ramen. Essentially, I gorged on the exact foods in our household that I don’t let Jake eat. Why? Well, I didn’t feel like cooking… the couch and The Office were just too inviting.
Lesson #1: There is no such thing as laziness when noone is watching.
I attended my first Geeks Who Drink trivia event and oh my goodness it was awesome. If they are in a city near you, I highly recommend signing up for your favorite trivia. Our team was solid–we rocked the clever-yet-subtle slogan shirts, read the books multiple times, own all the movies, listen to the audiobooks, and one girl had even just returned from Universal Studios. But wow, there are some hardcore fans. Who the heck knows the correct spelling of Quirrell’s first name? It’s Quirinus, by the way (I looked it up).
At least we beat the sluttly house elves (yes, I repeat blonde college girls dressed as slutty house elves, the wizarding world version of the French maid) with team name “Gryffinhores.” I’m super serious, you can’t make this stuff up. Anyway, we didn’t win and it breaks my heart to admit the following.
Lesson #2: I am not as amazing at Harry Potter trivia as I thought.
Planning strategy for the fantasy football draft: We know it is definitive, we know it’s going to blow up in our faces, but we still expect it to go smoothly every single time. I had my family league draft on Sunday and the whopping 20-team Fantasy Football Girls league tonight (thankfully, it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be). Football season is so close, I can smell the bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers! I’m a big Broncos fan, so be prepared for frequent GO BRONCOS! bursts in
every most some posts.
Lesson #3: No matter how much you prepare for Fantasy Football drafts, they never goes as planned.
I have no idea how I am 25 years old and have never seen this, or put two and two together. This was written on a whiteboard at work and I stopped in my tracks to stare at it. There is a two in Tuesday, and Tuesday is the second day of the week. Second day = number 2 = Tuesday. Mind = blown. Please don’t make fun of me.
Lesson #4: “Happy 2’s Day” makes absolute sense.
