Another blogaversary is upon us, celebrating the second month Lex Be Livin’ has been around. Woohoo! I’m proud to announce my combined social media following has increased 206% since last month. I’ve learned a few tricks and strategies both on social media and this blog to continue growing readership and followers. This is only the beginning and I’ve set another 200% increase goal for next month!
Rather than listing my updated WordPress and social media stats like I did last month, I’m going to share the top standout strategies that led to my blog’s growth for November. I hope these tips are helpful, especially for you fellow new bloggers out there!
Interact with others via Twitter.
I was scared of Twitter before this month because I did not understand how to work it to my benefit—why would people be drawn to what I had to say? The answer is simple: They’ll be drawn in if you talk to/about them! I’ve seen a 270% increase in Twitter followers this month, much of which attributes to reaching out to others.
Quote a piece of their post you really like, react to their post, give your favorites a shout out. Remember to always include their social media handle, the link to the post you’re talking about, and a designated hashtag if appropriate. Additionally, if you mention an organization in your post, then mention them in your post promotion tweets! Example: I discussed Donate Life in Save A Life for Molly’s Birthday and included several states’ Donate Life social media handles. They retweeted and sent readers, who I never could have personally reached, my way. The Haute Notes also has a great post about Twitter chats to check out.
Participate in a webinar.
Notice I did not say attend, I said participate. My very first one was Blogging, Business, and Balance hosted by The Daily Tay and Helene In Between. While the webinar itself was informative, I think the most important thing I got out of it was establishing my presence in the blog world. It was the first time I interacted with other bloggers and it taught me so much. For one, I’m not the only one who doesn’t have thousands of viewers every day. Go figure, right? I really love reading other beginner blogs, as I call them, and watching them grow because I can completely relate.
My blog’s comment numbers have increased 1,550% because of this webinar. (I am not including my own replies to comments.) I not only visited other blogs and other bloggers visited mine, I connected with people. We are in the same boat, we want to help one another, we’re all here to share our little corner of the Internet! You can’t expect to be a successful blogger if you don’t join the community. This isn’t just visiting other blogs, no no no. It even goes farther than commenting, although commenting is essential. Talk to them on social media, email them about collaborating, give them love on your own blog with shout outs. Utilize all the various opportunities to connect with other bloggers because when you become interested in them, their attention toward you perks up.
Publish a post that directly benefits other bloggers.
I’m not talking about “5 Tips to Increase Your Blog Traffic” or “Weekly Favorites” because while they are certainly beneficial and good reads, they aren’t necessarily game changers. Find a void and capitalize on it. You market yourself by blogging and sharing via social media, and in order to get attention it is essential to have something readers immediately want to click because it is automatically important for them to read. Get creative, do your research, take a risk!
My game changing post was a result of the Blogging, Business, and Balance webinar, called Share The Blog Love. During the webinar, I noticed bloggers were asking if there was a list of all the participants and their blogs separate from the madness of the chat box. I thought it would be beneficial for all the bloggers to have such a list, though it’d be time-consuming to create one and therefore become forgotten as everyone moved forward with their busy lives. I did not want everyone to forget one another, so I took the liberty of forming that list of all the bloggers in attendance. Not only did my blog traffic go through the roof, I was suddenly doubling my social media followers, receiving emails about partnering, and getting shout outs from big-name bloggers. Creating that list was the best blog decision I’ve ever made!
Take advantage of Instagram hashtags.
Yeah, all those random hashtags sure seem annoying and I originally planned on limiting my hashtag usage to only relevant hashtags so I wouldn’t be “one of those people.” Then I read Venus Trapped In Mar’s Instagram Hashtags For Bloggers That Will Triple Likes and 30 More Instagram Hashtags For Bloggers That Will Triple Likes. By the way, these two posts would fall into that category of “a post that directly benefits other bloggers.”
I felt a little lame getting excited if my Instagram photo reached the magic 11 likes, so I figured I would try out the inclusion of these hashtags (applying them appropriately per different kinds of photos). It was as if the bloggers’ hashtags were a guaranteed 50+ likes for even the most mundane photos! Now I’m hooked and I contribute my 198% Instagram follower increase directly to these posts by Sarah. Embrace the annoying hashtags. And seriously, don’t forget to include #letsbelivin to be featured here on the blog as a weekly favorite and your button on my sidebar!
What do you believe are key elements for blog/social media growth?
Wishing all bloggers the best of luck and thank you everyone for reading Lex Be Livin’ as we celebrate its second blogaversary!
