January was an a rockin’ month for Lexi the Digital Marketer as I hit the ground running with my new career and completion of a certificate in social marketing. It was also a successful “get ‘er done” month, in which I moved to Sacramento, found an apartment (and figured out a way for my large dog to be allowed), went on a weekend trip, picked up my car/belongings/dog in Colorado to road trip 1,353 miles, and unpacked to settle into our new home. Whew, even typing that out is exhausting.
Unfortunately, Lexi the Blogger barely made an appearance in January. It seems Lexi the Digital Marketer and Lexi the Blogger are struggling to coexistence—I have so much passion and motivation to get my blog back in action, though then I start thinking about that loooong to-do list for work and feel guilty for focusing on anything else.
Which brings me to goals. December was the last time I wrote out my blog goals and guess what? I accomplished each and every one of them—I even exceeded many of my own expectations. Now that I’m settled into my own home and I’ve found somewhat of a work rhythm, I turn my attention back to my beloved blog and rub my hands together to get going again. Seems fitting to get back on the horse with new goals for this month, right?
Establish a balance between my marketing career and my blogging career. This is my top priority not only this month, but every month. I will not even give myself the opportunity to achieve the below goals if I cannot work through this one. Now that we have that clear, let’s quantitatively strategize how to establish that balance. I technically work 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday (we aren’t going to complicate this with the frequent late evenings and weekends). I live with my boyfriend and we are in that “new home honeymoon” phase where we are excited to cook dinner, clean/organize, and be super cheesy by staring into one another’s eyes with big goofy grins on our faces. As wonderful as all of that is, it is now responsibility to bring blog time into my daily schedule. So, here’s what I propose: I already arrive at the office thirty minutes early each morning, so I am going to take that time and use it for personal means. It can be writing, reading, scheduling social media—however I choose to spend that thirty minutes will vary, though it will be my thirty minutes. Additionally, I will work on my blog for one hour after dinner each evening. This is something to let Jake be aware of, so he can anticipate me to be off in my own world at that time.
Increase my social media following by 100%. I’ve knocked this goal out of the park before and I can do it again! I’ve already signed up for Helene In Between’s webinar to gain more followers, I can apply what I’m quickly learning through my career, and I can take my own advice from How to Increase Your Social Media Following By 200%.
Meet my social media post goals. What are those goals? Facebook: 1 post a day. Twitter: 4 tweets a day. Pinterest: 3 pins a day. Instagram: 1 photo a day. I am talking every day minimum—no exceptions, no excuses. You know what that means: schedule, schedule, schedule! I’ve been using Buffer since November; however, I’ve never felt attached to it and I’ve recently decided to switch to Hootsuite. I’ll let you know how the change goes.
Reach 1,500 page views. Yes, I’m aware that is an ambitious goal, especially compared to January’s whooping 306 views. While I met my goal of 1,000 in December (1,081 views), I could have gained higher traffic if I didn’t, well, disappear mid-month. February is a whole other story and I can’t tell you how excited I am for it. I have a new home with an office space, Lex Be Livin’ is getting a big makeover (the suspense is crazy, yeah?), and I am confident in the skills I’ve been sharpening via online university classes and e-courses. This is going to be a great month where I am setting myself up for success from the beginning!
Reconnect with my blogging community. I made wonderful friends who have been so supportive during this transition period and as I settle into this new life, I am going to follow up with our collaborative ideas and catch up on their blogs. I will expand my blog network and seek new connections while strengthening old ones. I’m bringing back a December blog goal here by stating I will respond to emails, comments, etc. within 24 hours. I am going to comment on 3 blogs a day. This goal goes much deeper than numerical figures; I will reestablish the feeling of being part of something bigger than myself and this blog.
What are your February blog goals? So excited to catch up with you all and get this baby back up and running again!
