December is always one of my favorite months of the year—first off, it’s my birthday and Christmas! Despite all the celebrations, it also seems to be one of my more productive months. Maybe it’s because I push forward with that extra umph of effort before the new year, or perhaps it’s due to so much happiness in the air that when I work I’m automatically in a better mood.
Whatever the reason for this month’s increased productivity, I’ve created a list detailing my December blog goals. As Lex Be Livin’ grows, I get more and more excited about achieving these goals because they actually feel possible now. What’s more, I love figuring out methods that work best for me, whether it relates to social media growth, higher blog traffic, or interaction within the blogging community.
I hope to enter December with renewed spirit and determination, taking what I’ve learned this past month and building on it to continue this thriving growth. November was not an easy month for my family and me; there were many days in which opening my computer or peeking at social media was the last thing on my mind. The emotional turmoil has calmed down and I have fresh motivation to accomplish each of these goals!
Establish and stick to a blog schedule. So far, I’ve been a little all over the place with when and what I post, and I’m ready for more structure. I believe following a schedule will make those days I don’t want to turn on my computer a little easier to manage. I realistically anticipate posting Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. This also means I must prepare ahead of time and not scramble a post together the day of! I want to get into the rhythm of scheduling my posts in advance so they publish in the mornings (like Helene explains here). Unlike this post, which I’m trying to finish before bedtime.
Connect with all commenters/emailers within 24 hours. I am ecstatic to be receiving emails and comments frequently, which is a huge improvement from Octoer (1,550% increase in blog comments! Find out how I did it here). I’ve slipped away from the habit of responding quickly and it is time to fix that right now. I always reply to comments and emails within two or three days, yet that needs to become at minimal once, better yet two or three, times a day.
Strategically promote #letsbelivin that results in featuring 3 Instagram photos on the weekly favorites. What is this hashtag, you ask? Pause reading this and click here to learn how your blog can be featured as a weekly favorite (like I did here for Kitty Kitty La La and have your button on my sidebar for one to two weeks—it’s called FREE ADVERTISEMENT and you should seriously take advantage of it. You may notice today I am not hosting the second weekly favorites of #letsbelivin like I said Wednesdays always would be. I thought about putting one together for my beloved friend Sarah and blogging friend Cat, both of whom are the only two who have included #letsbelivin on their Instagram photos (thanks, ladies!). I’m going to save it for next week when I hope to include more bloggers because after reading this, you’ll want to join in on the fun, too.
Increase my combined social media following by 200%. I achieved this goal last month (check out the details here) and I really hope to grow with the same percentage increase by the end of December. I’m experimenting with different strategies on various social media platforms, specifically focusing on Twitter and Instagram. I want to expand on Pinterest (like I said I would here) and gain a better understanding about how bloggers utilize Facebook. If I build off of what I learned in November and continue learning about what works vs. what doesn’t, I can succeed with this goal. I’ve recently signed up for Katie’s free social media e-course and I encourage you to do the same.
Hit 1,000 views for this month. I honestly thought this was going to happen in November, yet I became sidetracked and admittingly did not put in as much effort as I could to make this happen. December, however, is a different story. Yes, there is a lot going on this month like my birthday, extended family visiting, grandmother’s memorial service, Christmas, and the whole high school gang coming into town. But I am beginning to get a better grip on this crazy concept of planning ahead (see first goal). If I set my mind to it and focus on the growth of this blog, I know I can easily achieve at least 1,000 more views. After all, I hit the big milestone of 1,000 views total in November!
Create a new logo header. Let’s be honest, the one I currently have at the top of on my blog is as simple as it gets and not very eye-catching. I am really looking forward to working with a web designer soon to give this blog a makeover, but it simply is not in the budget right now. Until I can make that happen, I’m tweaking things here and there to improve its overall appearance. First thing’s first: fix the logo to be more appealing and make readers want to stick around.
Organize my new computer and phone. Switching computers and phones is like moving into a new place (just without your arms wanting to fall off). You want to declutter your bookmarks, photos, documents, calendar, folders, apps, contacts, and everything else. It’s a fresh start and a lot of money has gone into these new devices, so they better feel new! I always tell myself while uploading all my previous data from an old device to a new one that this time I will declutter and organize. It never happens and just keeps building. I even thought about not restoring my iPhone 6s so I automatically don’t have to deal with it, but I just couldn’t do it. I know it is time-consuming, but I will handle these decluttering tasks in the very near future. It will make life so much easier and it will allow me to utilize my organizational skills to keep the blog’s behind-the-scenes in order.
Host two giveaways on different platforms. One is already in the works, so keep checking back for the big announcement! This is definitely a learning experience and I’m sort of figuring it out as I go along. While any time is a great time to give away free prizes, seems like it’s especially fitting to host a giveaway around the holidays, right? I also want to experiment with a few different platforms (primarily on the blog and Instagram) to target specific audiences. If you would like to partner for a giveaway, please let me know via email at email@example.com and we’ll chat about the possibilities!
Join a linkup party. I am still wrapping my head around how these work. I think I’m getting there. I’ve seen several linkup parties pop up on other blogs, though I haven’t taken the leap of signing up for one. That is going to change in December. Does anyone know of any going on now or what is the best method of finding one (aside from scrolling through Bloglovin’)?
Write two guest posts and host at least one on my blog. I had discussed exchanging guest posts with several bloggers from Blogging, Business, and Balance (check out the comprehensive list of attendees here) and it’s about time to reconnect and follow through. If you’re interested in writing a guest post for Lex Be Livin’ and/or would like to feature me, stop reading this and send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Oh, and keep your eye on Life with LoLo next week to spot yours truly!
Whew, that is a long list of goals! I’m curious to see your December goals; if you have a post, include the link in a comment or tweet (@lexbelivin) it to me! Any similarities? Major differences? Can’t wait to hear all about your goals as we work alongside toward achieving them in December!
